What makes Casuarina so cool?

Casuarina and its neighbour Salt Village have fast become some of the most popular holiday destinations in Australia. Snugly nestled between the Gold Coast and Byron Bay, this NSW North Coast holiday haven has something to suit all holidaymakers, from couples and families, to backpackers and large groups, and even those travelling with dogs!

What is it about the region that has people flocking here time and time again? Here are some of the things we love, and we’re sure you will too.

So close to everything – yet so far away

All the conveniences and activities of the Gold Coast are just a 20-minute drive away. Crossing the border at Coolangatta, you can access the airport, fantastic shops, an array of wonderful restaurants and golden sandy beaches, famed worldwide for their surfing accolades. If you continue driving further north up the coast, you can visit large shopping centres such as Pacific Fair and Robina Town Centre, as well as the theme parks Dreamworld, Movie World and Sea World. Brisbane is a little over an hour away and Byron Bay is less than half an hour. The hinterland is also close by, where you can take in the many walking trails and be immersed in nature.  Everything is at your fingertips – but the best part is that you wouldn’t even know it! You feel like you are in a cute little beach town – but it’s so easy to escape for a day trip – if you want to!

The beaches

Our golden beaches are known for being uncrowded and unspoilt. This isn’t Bondi Beach or Surfers Paradise – here at Salt and Casuarina, you can always find a spot on the sand. In fact, it’s rare to see more than a handful of people. It’s perfect for swimming, surfing or just relaxing. There are a number of spots along the beach with permanent seats where you can sit and watch whales go by. Cudgen Creek is also fantastic for boating, snorkelling, SUP and kayaking. But please remember, most of the beaches and waterways are unpatrolled and we always recommend swimming between the flags.

Foodie’s paradise

Casuarina and Salt are home to an array of restaurants, cafes and bars, ranging from casual to fancy. It really has become a foodie heaven, and there is no need to leave the area to enjoy a great dinner out. Some of our favourites include Spice Den (Thai), Lolitas (Mexican), Fins (seafood) and Jordy’s (pizza/Italian). But there are so many fantastic places, we can’t name them all. It’s best to wander around and see for yourself. Just ask us for a recommendation if you can’t decide.

You don’t need to go anywhere to access everything you might need on your holiday. The brand new Tweed Valley Hospital is close by for any medical emergencies. There is a Coles and Woolworths nearby, as well as chemists, beauty salons, butchers, bottle shops, gyms and pretty much everything you could ask for.

Open spaces

One of the best things about Salt and Casuarina is the wide, open spaces. We especially love the 6km boardwalk that you can walk or ride. It will take you from Kingscliff all the way to Cabarita. Along the way, you will pass beaches, dunes, sculptures, parks, houses and much more. If you’d like to hire a bike for your stay, we work closely with Tweed Coast Bike Hire – they will deliver the bikes to you and pick them up. There are several kids playgrounds in the area, as well as basketball courts and lovely green spaces where you can have a picnic or throw a ball around.

Accommodation options

With an array of accommodation options on offer, there is something to suit everyone, from conference-goers, to couples, to families and large groups. Check out our apartment options (including at the gorgeous resorts), resort hotel rooms, granny flats, townhouses or holiday houses – some are even pet-friendly! . Let us know how we can help you find the perfect accommodation for your perfect destination holiday.

What more do you need? See you soon at Salt and Casuarina.
